Frequently Asked Questions
Questions, answered with the same patience we bring to training.
Everything you might want to know about in-home training, our programs, force-free methods, and what to expect. If your question isn't here, we're glad to talk it through.

How we work
How we work
Do you offer group classes?
No. All training is provided one-to-one, in your home. We don't offer group classes — in-home work lets us address your dog's behavior in the environment where it actually happens, at a pace tailored to your dog.
Why in-home training instead of a training facility?
Most behavior happens at home, on walks, and around the people and triggers in your daily life. Working there means the skills generalize immediately, and your dog learns in the setting where they'll actually use them.
What is force-free, science-based training?
It means we use modern learning science — positive reinforcement, desensitization, and counter-conditioning — and never rely on fear, pain, or intimidation. We change how your dog feels and responds, not just how they look.
What happens during a consultation?
We start by listening: your dog's history, your goals, and the daily reality you share. Then we decode what the behavior is communicating and outline a practical, step-by-step plan you can begin right away.
Do you train for adaptability or just obedience?
Adaptability. Dogs don't live in one controlled environment — they meet new people, places, and situations constantly. We help your dog understand what's being asked and use their skills in the real world, so they can adjust, cope with new situations, and keep making good choices when circumstances change.
Programs & support levels
Programs & support levels
What are the three training programs?
Essential Foundations builds the shared language and core skills. Everyday Companion™ polishes real-world reliability. Reactive to Relaxed addresses reactivity, fear, and overwhelm with compassionate behavior change.
What are the Guided, Partnered, and Complete support levels?
Every program pairs private in-home lessons with ongoing phone and email support. Guided is 3 lessons and 3 months of support. Partnered is 7 lessons and 6 months. Complete is 12 lessons and 12 months. They're levels of access and ongoing support, not different training methods.
How do I choose a support level?
It depends on your goals and the complexity of the behavior. A focused start may suit foundational work; deeper or longer-term change benefits from more sessions and extended support. We'll help you decide during your first conversation — there's no pressure to choose a particular level.
Can I move between programs or levels?
Yes. Many families start with one program and level, then continue or extend as their needs become clearer. The plan is always built around you and your dog.
Puppies, reactivity & rescue dogs
Puppies, reactivity & rescue dogs
Do you work with puppies?
Yes. Early guidance shapes a lifetime of behavior. We help puppies build trust, communication, and foundational skills at a pace appropriate to their age and development.
Can you help with a reactive or fearful dog?
Absolutely — that's a core focus of our practice. Reactive to Relaxed uses stepwise desensitization and counter-conditioning to change how your dog feels about their triggers, working always at a comfortable distance.
Do you work with rescue and adopted dogs?
Yes. We're experienced with dogs whose histories are unknown. We move at the dog's pace, building trust first and reading each behavior as information about what they need to feel safe. For deeper rescue-specific guidance, visit RescueDogHelp.com — a resource to help people better understand rescue and shelter dogs, including the Rescue Dog Decoder Quiz.
Is my dog too old to benefit?
No. Behavior change is possible at any age. Older dogs often benefit greatly from patient, science-based work — understanding, not force, is what creates lasting change.
Families, scheduling & payment
Families, scheduling & payment
Can the whole family be involved?
We encourage it. Consistency across the people in your dog's life makes change stick. We'll coach everyone who's part of your dog's day so the approach stays clear and kind.
Do you work with children in the home?
Yes. We help families build safe, respectful relationships between dogs and children, and we coach adults on how to support both.
How are sessions scheduled?
Sessions are arranged by appointment at times that work for your household. Ongoing phone and email support continues between sessions for the duration of your chosen support level.
What payment options are available?
Payment options available: Cash, Check, Credit Card & Klarna. Program pricing and support levels are reviewed during the initial conversation.
What areas do you serve?
Training is provided in-home within our North Georgia service area — Pickens, Gilmer, and Cherokee Counties. Please reach out and we'll confirm whether we cover your location.
